15th International Young Scientist Conference “Developments in Optics and Communications 2019”

11-12 April, Riga, Latvia


Dear students and young scientists,

On behalf of University of Latvia SPIE and OSA student chapters we are pleased to announce the 15th International Young Scientist Conference “Developments in Optics and Communications 2019”, that will take place in Riga, Latvia, April 11-12th, 2019 as well as the “Laserlab IV Nordic Training School for Potential Users” that will take place April 10-12th, 2019.

We would like to encourage you to contribute with a talk or a poster presentation relevant to the conference topics:

  1. ​​Biophotonics;
  2. Laser physics and spectroscopy;
  3. Optical materials and phenomena;
  4. Optics in communication;
  5. Vision science.

The conference brings together students and young scientists that work in optics, photonics and fields related to them, to share their ideas and scientific challenges  and to create meaningful connections in the scientific community.

Laserlab IV Nordic Training School for Potential Users “Training school in luminescence dynamics: analyzing relaxation processes”


This year, DOC continues an established tradition and cooperates with Laserlab. Graduate and postgraduate students with interest in laser physics are invited to register for Laserlab Training School, acquiring a hands-on experience in one of the three laser physics laboratories at the University of Latvia.


Online registration and abstract submission for the conference available until February 28th, 2019, 23:59, UTC+2.


Participation fee (paid after confirmed registration)

  • SPIE / OSA Student Members: 10.00
  • Other participants: 20.00
  • Guests: free of charge

Additional requirements:

Laserlab registration

To apply you have to send additional information to the contact email of the organizers:

  • Motivation to participate in Laserlab Training School (300-400 words)
  • Brief CV, including current scientific/research specialization


If you need a visa to enter Latvia, please contact the organizing committee before February 28th, 2019.


Grants and Financial support

Limited amount of travel grants for covering travel expenses and accommodation will be available to international students. To apply for the grant, please, contact the organizing committee before February 28th, 2019.
